Mercer County Communities

Aledo

Aledo looks much like it did at the turn of the 20th century. You can stroll down Main Street or visit its historic residential neighborhoods. Aledo is the Mercer County seat and has a population in excess of 15,000.

Eliza

Eliza is located in northwest Mercer County. This town offers immediate river access and a picturesque view of Bay Island.

Joy

Joy stands at one of Mercer County’s highest points and is home to Boon Docks, one of Mercer County’s most popular restaurants.

Keithsburg

Located on the “Mighty Mississippi”, Keithsburg offers opportunities to reconnect with nature through fishing, boating and camping. Big River State Forest lies just four miles south of Keithsburg.

Matherville

Matherville is just 20 miles from Rock Island, and the town hosts the Mercer County’s largest July 4th fireworks display. Lake Matherville offers boating or fishing.

New Boston

New Boston was surveyed by Abraham Lincoln in 1834. You can access the river directly in New Boston through Lock and Dam #17. The town offers many options for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy boating, fishing or camping.

New Windsor

The Village of New Windsor is known for cowboys, broncs and saddles. It is a strong rural community located on the eastern edge of Mercer County.

North Henderson

North Henderson is a quaint farming village known for its ball diamonds and annual livestock show. Residents enjoy a quiet, country lifestyle.

Preemption

Preemption is nestled on US 67. It is located close to the Quad Cities, which makes it an easy commute for residents.

Seaton

Seaton’s quaint downtown includes a post office, café and fire station. A local grassroots organization, SPARKS, just constructed a new, state-of-the-art park and playground.

Sherrard

Sherrard is a popular bedroom community of the Quad Cities. The village is home to the Fyre Lake community, which includes a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, tennis courts and recreational lakes.

Viola

Viola is located at the true ‘crossroads’ of Mercer County. Intersected by US Highway 67 and State Highway 17, Viola provides easy transportation access and a high quality of life.
